Getting source code

SETI@home is open source.The source code is available in several ways:

  • Web interface to the SVN repository.
  • Access the SVN repository directly, e.g. with a command like

The client code is in client/; sample input files are in client/test_workunits.

If you are looking for the SETI@home CUDA source, it is currently locatedat https://setisvn.ssl.berkeley.edu/svn/branches/seti_cuda. It will eventually be merged with the main source branch.

Compiling and testing

You can compile SETI@home for new platforms,or (if you know what you're doing)compile it or revise it to run faster on an existing platform.In either case, you'll need to know about BOINC'sanonymous platform mechanism.

Distributing SETI@home in binary or source code format

You may distribute your modified and/or recompiled versions of SETI@home only if you are willing to abide by the terms of the General Public License. If you are unwilling or unable to comply you may not distribute SETI@home.
  • You must distribute copyright notices and a copy of the General Public License with the program or source code you distribute.
  • You must provide a means for someone to obtain the source code of the program as you compiled it. If you have not modified the source code, this could be as simple as providing a link to the SETI@home web site. If you have modified the code you are required to make the modified code available for at least 3 years.
